There are few players who have had more hectic off-seasons than Ryan Suter so far. The 36-year-old was surprisingly bought out by the Minnesota Wild despite still having four years left on his contract, and wasted no time finding a new home as he inked a four-year deal with the Dallas Stars on the opening day of free agency.

Despite reports that he was very upset about the news of the buyout, reportedly even hanging up on general manager Bill Guerin, Suter is making it clear he is still very appreciative of all his years spent in Minnesota.

«We've built our lives in this community, and for the past nine years it's been the best place in the world for us all,» Suter said in a lengthy piece published by The Players Tribune.

While there is no denying he is getting older, Suter has still proven he can play at a high level, averaging over 22 minutes of ice time this past season. In 2019-20, he likely would have topped his career high 51 points if the season hadn't ended prematurely, as he had 48 points in 69 games. Clearly, he is still a very good player, and should help the Stars blueline in a big way. It will be interesting to see whether the decision to buyout his contract was a good one by the Wild as time goes on.
