Earlier this morning, Toronto Star reporter Kevin McGran said that defenceman Zach Bogosian will not be returning to the Maple Leafs for the 2021-22 season.

While McGran didn't mention any reason as to why, there have since been rumors that it is due to the fact the 31-year-old is unhappy with how Canada has gone about their lockdown measures during the pandemic. These rumors are unconfirmed, but certainly make sense given the fact that Bogosian played quite well in a Leafs uniform and would likely be back next season if he wanted to be. It is certainly interesting seeing as things in Canada are back to or are nearing normalcy once again, but from the rumors on social media it sounds like he has his mind set on playing in an American market going forward. Bogosian is from the US and his family remains there. Staying in Canada makes it harder for him to see his family during the regular season.

As mentioned, Bogosian played quite well for the Leafs this season in mainly a third pairing role. While he only managed four assists in 45 games, he was very steady when called upon and also helped contribute to their penalty kill. The NHL vet of 689 career games would certainly attract some interest on the free agent market if that is indeed the way he plans to go.
