The Fourth Period's David Pagnotta dropped a bit of a shocker late Sunday night, as he brought up pending UFA Nick Foligno's name, linking him to the Edmonton Oilers.

Pagnotta suggested that Foligno could be preparing to join fellow pending UFA and Maple Leafs teammate Zach Hyman in Edmonton on a 4-year deal, worth as much as $4.5M per season.

The rumoured deal is perhaps a touch rich and lengthy for a guy who will be 37 at its conclusion, but Foligno is both a leader and a fierce competitor.

While I had heard plenty of rumours previously, linking Foligno to Minnesota, Columbus and even a potential return to Toronto, this is the first time I have seen Foligno's name mentioned in any rumours involving the Oilers.

Foligno, 33, is the type of player who will leave everything out on the ice. A big team-first guy who will hit, kill penalties, play anywhere you need him to in the lineup, is defensively responsible and will drop the mitts if the situation calls for it. These are all qualities that Zach Hyman shares as well.

This one is a bit strange, seeing as how the Maple Leafs have not announced anything about allowing Foligno and his agent to speak with other teams ahead of UFA day..

If this rumour is true, this is be shaping up to be a massive offseason for the Oilers.
