By all accounts, veteran defenseman Mark Giordano is a member of the Seattle Kraken after being left unprotected by the Calgary Flames, a team he has captained since 2013. However, one report states that may not be the only move for Giordano on Wednesday.

According to Rick Carpiniello, who covers the New York Rangers for The Athletic, Seattle is selecting forward Colin Blackwell from the Blueshirts. But, he believes a trade has already been decided on that will keep Blackwell in New York and possibly bring Giordano to the Rangers as well.

While pretty much all the expansion draft picks made by the Kraken have been leaked in advance of Wednesday night's reveal, trades will not be made public until the broadcast. It's very possible that some of the names on the list of picks, and possibly several, won't be members of the Seattle Kraken for long. This would make a lot of sense as the roster of leaked picks seems somewhat underwhelming right now.

If the Rangers are indeed getting Giordano, it's quite possible there are other teams involved in this trade. Giordano has just one season left on his contract with a cap hit of $6.75 million. It's a possibility that Seattle, or perhaps a third team, is willing to retain some of that salary in order to get the deal done. Ottawa is said to be very interested in the Rangers' Ryan Strome, while New York has been heavily involved in rumours involving Jack Eichel of the Buffalo Sabres. For anyone thinking there's no reason to tune into the draft tonight due to the leaked picks, you might be missing out on some big exchanges.
