While it can't be announced until after the Seattle Expansion Draft on Wednesday, there's word the New York Rangers have already worked out a deal with recent acquisition Barclay Goodrow. New York picked up Goodrow for a seventh-round pick from the Tampa Bay Lightning just before the expansion roster freeze came into effect.

"Hearing [New York Rangers] have made significant progress with newly acquired forward Barclay Goodrow," said Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff.

"Not finalized. Expectation is Goodrow will be a Blueshirt once the signing moratorium is lifted with a 6-year deal in $3.6m AAV range."

Goodrow was acquired by Tampa Bay at the trade deadline in 2019-20. At the time, the payment was a first-rounder. The reason the Lightning gave him up for a seventh rounder now is because Goodrow is set to become an unrestricted free agent and the team just didn't have the cap space to sign him to a new deal. Goodrow has won two Cups with Tampa Bay and will provide excellent leadership and experience for the team. He's done very well for a guy who was never drafted and had to grind his way into the NHL. Rangers GM Chris Drury appears to be very high on Goodrow.

"He's a winner. He's able to walk into our locker room and talk about what it's like to play in the playoffs and to win Cups," said Drury.
