Maple Leafs 2020 first round pick signs extension in Russia

Despite signing his entry-level contract back in the spring, Maple Leafs prospect Rodion Amirov will remain in Russia for the 2021-22 season. Amirov has signed a one-year contract extension with Salavat Yulaev Ufa and is on loan from the Maple Leafs.

Amirov, 19, spent most of the 2020-21 season in the KHL with Ufa but bounced between the VHL and MHL as well. In 39 regular season games for Ufa, Amirov tallied 13 points (9 G, 4 A), 6 penalty minutes, and was a -1. He also got into 9 playoff games, but didn't record any points.

The Salavat native represented Russia at the 2021 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship. In 7 games he had 6 points (2 G, 4 A), 4 penalty minutes, and was a -4 as Russia finished fourth after losing to Finland in the bronze medal game.

19-year-old Rodion Amirov continues to play in the KHL.
