Just before the 3 p.m. ET trade freeze, the Pittsburgh Penguins and Toronto Maple Leafs swung a deal. According to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, the Penguins have traded forward Jared McCann to the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for Filip Hallander and a seventh round pick.

McCann, 25, had a fairly good season with the Penguins. In 43 regular season games, he had 32 points (14 G, 18 A), 8 penalty minutes, and was a +17.

Hallander, 21, was originally drafted by the Penguins and was traded from them to Toronto last summer for Kasperi Kapanen. Hallander spent the 2020-21 season with Lulea HF in the SHL where he had 24 points (13 G, 11 A), 12 penalty minutes, and was a -1 in 51 regular season games.
