In some tragic news coming out of Ottawa today, one of the reporters for the Senators, Shawn Simpson, has tragically and unexpectedly passed away.

In some very tragic news coming out of Ottawa today, the beloved reporter Shawn Simpson, who many also knew in the area as Simmer, has sadly died at the age of 56.

Simpson was a former GM and pro scout in both the NHL and KHL. He was drafted by the Washington Capitals in 1986 in the third round but never suited up for a game in the NHL.

Simpson was a member of the 1987 Team Canada World Junior Championship.

Simpson had made it known to the public a few months ago that he had been struggling with some personal issues, however, it is too early to speculate on the cause of death at the moment.

Simpson played four seasons in the Ontario Hockey League between 1985 and 1989, having suited up for both the Soo Greyhounds and the Oshawa Generals.

He also played in the American Hockey League for three seasons from 1988 to 1991 with the Baltimore Skipjacks.

Simpson was a local Ottawa boy, having been born in Gloucester, Ontario, which is a quiet suburb in the Eastern part of the city. Fans of the Senators loved listening to his takes on the radio and also on social media X.

We would like to take this moment to extend our deepest condolences to all of Shawn's family and friends, and we know that this is going to be a very difficult time but all of his fans out there are no doubt praying for everyone affected right now.
