An enforcer in the Ottawa Senators organization has left the team indefinitely with the Sens asking for privacy on the matter.

While Brady Tkachuk of the Ottawa Senators recently shocked fans and officials with a surprising decision on the ice, another member of the organization is surprising fans with a decision made off the ice.

Enforcer Zack MacEwan, who is under contract with the Ottawa Senators while playing for Belleville in the AHL, has decided to leave the team for an indefinite period of time.

The Belleville Senators say MacEwan has their full support.

"The entire Senators organization is committed to supporting Zack during this time. He is a valued member of our organization and has our full backing. Out of respect to Zack's privacy, we will not have further comment at this time."

MacEwan has played 21 games with the Ottawa Senators this season, as well as another 15 with Belleville.

The 28-year-old has a long list of battles on the ice posted to HockeyFights.com, and is well known around the league for earning his roster spot with his fists.

MacEwan was never drafted, instead starting his NHL career with the Vancouver Canucks as a free agent.

Over the years, he's also played with the Philadelphia Flyers and LA Kings before signing with Ottawa.

Whatever is going on, we wish the best for Zack MacEwan and his family in this difficult time as hockey takes a back seat to more important issues.
