After appearing in just nine games for the Bruins this season, veteran forward Tyler Johnson has now officially had his contract terminated by the team.

This past off-season the Boston Bruins brought in Tyler Johnson on a PTO, and after impressing with the team in pre-season, he earned a deal and found his way onto their roster.

Unfortunately for the 34-year old, the team have now officially placed him on waivers for the purpose of contract termination, first reported by Connor Ryan of the Boston Globe.

In nine games played for the Bruins this season, Johnson has tallied just two assists along with a -1 differential, but with the team picking up Oliver Wahlstrom on waivers recently, his role on the team became redundant.

It's unclear if anything behind the scenes happened with Johnson or whether the team simply believed he wasn't a fit for them anymore, but ultimately they decided to go in a much younger direction as the team have begun turning around momentum in a big way as of late.

Johnson first appeared in the NHL back in 2012 with the Tampa Bay Lightning, and after spending his first nine seasons with the team, he capped off his time there with back-to-back Stanley Cups in 2020 and 2021.

Now however, it's unclear what his future in the league looks like, as he can clearly still play, but with the Bruins moving on from him and few other teams showing interest in free agency, he may need to head overseas to find a role in hockey still.

On top of this news, all four players that were waived on Wednesday officially cleared, and with the roster freeze coming into effect on Friday, it appears this may be the end of a crazy week of waivers and trades in the NHL.
