James Hitchcock was a young soccer goaltender who tragically lost his life, as it was revealed he passed away in hospital after suffering a night out head injury.

Barton Town FC has paid tribute to their goalkeeper, James Hitchcock, who tragically passed away after an alleged assault during a night out last weekend.

James Hitchcock, a devoted husband and father of one, suffered serious head injuries in an incident at the city's railway station on Sunday evening. He died in hospital on Wednesday.

British Transport Police have named the man as 22-year-old Mckenzie Dicicco from Stockton-on-Tees, who has been charged with murder. Dicicco will appear at York Magistrates' Court.

Police were called to the incident at around 8.45 pm GMT on Sunday after reports a man, aged in his 30s as described at the time, had suffered serious head injuries.

On Thursday morning, Barton Town FC confirmed the death of Hitchcock in a statement from the heart.

«Barton Town FC are devastated to announce that following a serious head injury, our First Team goalkeeper James Hitchcock has passed away peacefully in hospital.»

Anthony Bowsley, Hitchcock's manager and former teammate at Bridlington Town, also shared a personal tribute.

"James was a lovely kid. Just a genuine, all round good guy. He is irreplaceable both as a friend and a player."

- Anthony Bowsley

All of Barton Town's scheduled matches for the weekend have been canceled as a mark of respect.

We would like to express our sincerest condolences to all of James' family and friends during this incredibly difficult time, and we hope that swift justice gets served.
