Adam Silver and the NBA fined Charlotte Hornets guard LaMelo Ball 100,000 dollars for a comment he made post-game last night.

The Hornets guard was interviewed on the court last night after the team eked out a one-point victory over Milwaukee by a final score of 115-114 Saturday night. Ball had 26 points in the contest, nine rebounds and six assists while going 11/11 from the free throw line.

Unfortunately for him, one of the comments he made post-game garnered attention from the league's front office, who were quick to respond. As a result, the 2020 3rd overall pick is down 100 bands this morning.

This is the comment Ball made that earned him the fine.

"That last play, when he took the shot? Yeah, we loaded up, no homo, but that's what we wanted."

It appears as though the league is continuing to crack down even harder than they have been on comments like this. Just six years ago, Nuggets Star Nikola Jokic was fined just 25,000 dollars for using the same exact phrase.

Either way, the fine seems a bit excessive. We have seen professional athletes say far more offensive things in the past without so much as a slap on the wrist for it.

A 100,000 dollar fine is much more akin to a punch to the face than a slap on the wrist, even for a NBA player. After all, that is probably more money than LaMelo made during the game, especially after factoring in taxes.

Fans largely seem to be against this move by the league. After all, the comment really was not that offensive. It may have been a bit immature, but does that really warrant such a punishment?
