The Detroit Red Wings organization officially gave up on Jack Campbell, as they placed him on waivers after he left the NHL Player Assistance Program.

It hasn't been an easy year for the goaltender Jack Campbell. After showing a lot of promise with the Toronto Maple Leafs, things took a turn for him during his stint with the Edmonton Oilers. A terrible start to the 2023-24 season forced the Oilers' management to send him down to the AHL, where he spent the rest of the season while watching his team compete in the Stanley Cup Finals.

This summer, he had an interesting opportunity to bounce back when he was offered a one-year contract by Steve Yzerman and the Detroit Red Wings.

Unfortunately for him, he joined the Player Assistance Program right before the start of the season and hasn't played a single game for the Red Wings.

A month later, the goalie left the program, and Detroit wasted no time to make a move.

In breaking news, the insider Elliotte Friedman confirmed that the Red Wings made a massive decision regarding Campbell.

He stated in a post on X that the goaltender was placed on waivers:

It's not surprising to see the Wings place him on waivers. He hasn't been on the ice for a long time, and some work in the AHL is the first step to an eventual return to the NHL.

It'll be interesting to see how Campbell performs in the AHL, and if he can convince the Red Wings to give him a shot in the NHL if either Alex Lyon or Cam Talbot get injured.
