After a down season a year ago which resulted in the team firing their only ever Head Coach to that point, the Seattle Kraken started well in 2024/25, but have since dropped six of their last seven games, taking them to 5-7-1 through their first 13 games. However, the team still believes they are a Stanley Cup Playoff threat this year, and as the season rolls on, it looks like they'll have to make a few tough decisions on this roster.
According to Frank Seravalli, that may mean moving a key forward, as he has reported that the team may believe they are too heavy on forwards, and it will lead to them needing to move one or two fan favourites.
Those fan favourites were named as Yanni Gourde and Brandon Tanev, who are both reportedly expendable as the team looks to move forward and become genuine contenders. On top of that, Seravalli also revealed that the team has already received plenty of offers on Gourde, but to this point, nothing has been worth their time.
After starting his Kraken career with back-to-back seasons of 48 points, Gourde struggled a year ago, tallying just 33 points, and through 13 games, he has just three assists this season. With the team looking to consolidate its lineup, it makes sense if they wanted to pair a draft pick with either of these players to shore up their depth at another position, but if this report is accurate, it could mean the end of two players that have been in Seattle since the beginning, and while it would be tough, hockey is a business after all.
