A freak accident at a soccer game in Peru has led to one life being lost and multiple injuries after lightning struck a soccer pitch.
An absolutely awful situation out of Peru where one person has died and several others were injured when lightning struck the field, which appeared to be wet at the time.
The City of Chilca in Peru was the host of the game. Everything was going along normally, until a bolt comes from the sky and levels several of the players. Seeing several of them drop to the ground simultaneously is an unnerving experience.
According to reports,
The Mirror states the incident has already led to calls for increasing safety during storms when games are being played.
"At least eight players including Jose and the seriously-injured goalie ended up on the ground. The match, which Juventud Bellavista was winning by 2-0 with 22 minutes played, was abandoned after the horror lightning strike.
The tragedy has led to calls for enhanced security protocols at sporting events, especially in high-altitude areas like Huancayo where the capital city of the same name is 10,659 feet above sea level."
This is just a horrific incident that shows you just never know when something bad can happen. Hopefully all those injured will be able to continue on with their day to day lives are recovering from the incident.
