Garnet Hathaway of the Philadelphia Flyers is getting fined $5,000 by the NHL Department of Player Safety for his nasty elbow on Joel Eriksson ek.

Minnesota Wild's star, Marcus Foligno, has some choice words for Garnet Hathaway after he described the play as "disgraceful" during the Philadelphia Flyers' victory last night.

Foligno was frustrated enough to say that Hathaway does these things because otherwise, he wouldn't have a place in this league. That is really blunt and harsh, but reportedly, many voices in the league share his opinion. Another journalist, Mark Scheig, also mentioned that Hathaway has gotten a number of similar comments from other NHL players themselves.

The worst moment of frustration came late in the game as Garnet Hathaway of the Flyers delivered a nasty elbow to Minnesota Wild Joel Eriksson Ek's already badly injured nose from a previous break. One of those completely unnecessary plays that, in a game like this one, which was winding down, leaves you shaking your head. For this, the NHL Department of Player Safety has just fined Hathaway $5,000. You can see the elbow video below.

Garnet Hathaway's dirty elbow

Hathaway, who has played over 500 NHL games, has that grind-it-out style; the Flyers do appreciate that. He's one of those players who, on any other team, would be a villain, but one your team is glad to have.

Both the Flyers and the Wild do have potential this season, but neither one will be in serious contention for the Stanley Cup. Nevertheless, it should prove interesting, and after what happened on the ice last night, there's clearly some serious tension that could come out in the next matchup.
