The Toronto Maple Leafs signed Stanley Cup champion Steven Lorentz to a professional tryout deal.

In breaking news, the General Manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Brad Treliving, decided to sign Steven Lorentz to a PTO.

Elliotte Friedman shared the news in a post on X:

Lorentz, 28, won the Stanley Cup last season with the Florida Panthers and will try to bring that experience to Toronto to help the team achieve their high aspirations for the 2024-25 season.

He was drafted 186th overall by the Carolina Hurricanes, where he played the first two seasons of his career. Then, he joined the San Jose Sharks for a year before being traded to the Florida Panthers for Anthony Duclair.

In his career, he has played 230 games and scored 43 points, including 21 goals in the regular season. He added six points in 32 playoff games.

Last season, with the Panthers, he was often a healthy scratch and ended up being limited to 38 games.

The Ontario native will get a chance to impress the Toronto Maple Leafs' coaching staff in training camp, but he'll need to bring his best to earn a spot in the lineup.

In the bottom-six, the Leafs already have multiple interesting options. The best option for Lorentz may be to target a job on David Kampf's wing on the fourth line, likely replacing Connor Dewar.
