Former NHL player and Pittsburgh Penguins executive Jason Spezza has been promoted by Kyle Dubas to become the new general manager of the team's AHL affiliate.

GM of the Penguins Kyle Dubas just loves Jason Spezza. They spent time together in upper management with the Leafs, and then they both made their way to Pittsburgh. Now, Dubas has given Spezza a promotion so that he can take over as general manager of the AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. NHL insider Chris Johnston has also stated that Spezza will still remain as the assistant GM to the NHL's Pittsburgh Penguins too
Jason Spezza's final year as an NHL player was in 2022, after which he immediately served as the special assistant to Kyle Dubas with the Maple Leafs. He then moved on to Pittsburgh along with Dubas in 2023.
The 41-year-old former NHL player was hired by the Pittsburgh Penguins as an assistant GM on June 14, 2023, barely one month after Kyle Dubas left the Maple Leafs.
Jason Spezza has played for three teams in his NHL career, having started off with the Ottawa Senators before moving on to the Dallas Stars, and ultimately ending his career with the Toronto Maple Leafs. He is part of the exclusive 1,000 game club too. In the three seasons he spent with the Maple Leafs to end his career, he scored 31 goals and 49 assists in 183 games.
When the Toronto Maple Leafs finally won their first playoff round in a decade back in 2023, Kyle Dubas and Jason Spezza were part of that Leafs team. They are hopeful they can re-create some of that magic in Pittsburgh next season, in what's been a tough two years for the franchise having missed out on the playoffs during that time.
