Former NHL coach Dallas Eakins shares his true thoughts on Craig Berube's hire by the Toronto Maple Leafs

Months after the Toronto Maple Leafs replaced Sheldon Keefe with Craig Berube as head coach, former assistant coach to the team Dallas Eakins finally expressed his hope for their next Stanley Cup.

Toronto Maple Leafs have grown beyond tired of early playoff exits, taking another first-round Game 7 loss to the Boston Bruins earlier this year. It came as little shock that afterward, the team finally fired Sheldon Keefe after his five-year stint as their head coach. Taking his place was Craig Berube, who helped the St. Louis Blues win their first franchise Stanley Cup in 2019.

Now, months after the decision was finalized, former assistant coach to the Toronto Maple Leafs Dallas Eakins has finally shared his thoughts on the team's decision to hire Craig Berube. In his recent appearance on The Leafs Nation's podcast, he expressed a newfound hope that Toronto can finally turn around their luck and bring home another Cup.

Dallas Eakins is no stranger to head coaching, having spent two years behind the bench for the Edmonton Oilers and four for the Anaheim Ducks. Though he is now behind the bench in Germany, he is still clued in on what is working in the NHL, and he clearly believes Craig Berube has the chance to put Toronto back on that list. Hopefully, he is right, otherwise, it could be a longer dry spell for the Maple Leafs.
