Just because you're 40-years-old doesn't mean you have to hang up the skates yet, and that's exactly Valtteri Filppula's mindset as he signed in Finland.

Valtteri Filppula has signed a contract with the Jokerit Mestis in Finland for next year at the ripe age of 40. It appears that following his days as a player, the team will have another role lined up for him when he is ready to finally retire. Based off of information circulating, it would be in the role of a co-owner of the club.

Valtteri Filppula has already played for this Finnish club in the past before entering the NHL. During his time in North America, Filppula played for Detroit, Tampa Bay, Philadelphia and the NY Islanders. His time with these teams spanned 16 seasons and over 1,000 games. In those games he managed to score 197 goals and 530 points. His final year in the NHL was during the 2020-21 season with the Red Wings.

Valtteri Filppula belongs to the very rare "triple gold" club. This is because in the spring of 2022, he became the first Finnish player ever to win a Stanley Cup, the Olympic gold medal, and the world championship. What a feat that truly is.

The last time that Valtteri Filppula played in Finland was during the 2012-13 NHL lockout season. During that time, he managed to score six goals for 15 points in 16 games.

We wish Valtteri all the best overseas in the upcoming hockey season.
