Following the failed Detroit Red Wings trade, the Toronto Maple Leafs have emerged in the sweepstakes for New York Rangers defenseman Jacob Trouba.
Jacob Trouba has been a key figure in the New York Rangers lineup since his acquisition from the Winnipeg Jets. It came as no surprise when in 2022 he was appointed the team's captain.
"Captain Trouba has a pretty nice ring to it. 🍎 "
However, Trouba seems on his way to becoming the third consecutive New York Rangers captain to be traded. After rumors circulated of his trade to the Detroit Red Wings, the veteran defenseman added the team to his no-trade list.
"It was crazy to learn that Trouba, a Michigan native, added DET to his no-trade list when he heard that's where #NYR wanted to send him.
All legal, too, as he did it before he submitted it to NYR.
Reports getting out changed everything for NYR.
What an ugly situation."
However, as one team gets added to the no-trade list, the likelihood of every other team getting their hands on him gets a little bit bigger. Among the new names is the Toronto Maple Leafs, who hope to bolster their defensive core.
"With Jacob Trouba having added the Detroit Red Wings to his no-trade list, could the Toronto Maple Leafs swoop in to grab him?"
Though Toronto has an opening to secure Jacob Trouba, it will be rather difficult to pull off given his dedication to ensuring his wife retains her residency. However, without total control over his next steps in the NHL, the defenseman could be part of the Maple Leafs before too long.
