Patrick Sharp has been a long-time member of the Chicago Blackhawks, but now he's reportedly blossoming in a new role with the Philadelphia Flyers.
After a stellar career with the Chicago Blackhawks, Patrick Sharp has now officially moved on, despite excelling in a role in front of the screen, as he has returned to the place his career began. Now, according to all reports, Sharp's career has blossomed in a new role with the Flyers, where he has been serving as the special advisor to the hockey operations department.
At 42-years of age, Sharp remains in fantastic condition, and according to everyone present, he stepped up in a big way at the Flyers recent development camp, impressing first-round pick Jett Luchanko in a huge way.
«It's really cool to see him out here,» Flyers 2024 first-round pick Jett Luchanko said. «Looks like he could still be playing. You can tell he just loves the game.»
His role has now expanded to help the young drafted talent of the Flyers, and according to Sharp himself, it's paying off in more ways than one, as it allows him to not only continue his role in hockey, but also to be home with his family.
«I think (television) was great for me the first three or four years after retiring. It kept me in the game, fed my ego, got a lot of face time,» Sharp said. «But as the years went on, it became less enjoyable. I loved the people I worked with, both with the Hawks and at NBC. It felt like they were a part of a team. But I missed actually wearing a team logo and working with players and being a part of something.»
Only time will tell whether or not Sharp can improve the development of the Flyers, but for now, the shift from on-screen announcer to development has been a good one for Sharp, and it appears he's happy and thriving in this position.
