The Carolina Hurricanes and Chicago Blackhawks made a late draft day trade moving pick 27 for picks 34 and 50.

The Carolina Hurricanes are under new management with GM Erik Tulsky looking to make several picks with his analytics based draft strategy. The Chicago Blackhawks are looking for stars to play alongside Connor Bedard, and thus a perfect trade up situation emerged.

Details:
To #Blackhawks: No. 27 overall
To #Canes: No. 34 and No. 50

They have selected Marek Vanacker.

Chicago's third pick of the first round is Marek Vanacker

The Chicago Blackhawks have already drafted defenseman Artyom Levshunov and forward Sasha Boisvert already in the 2024 NHL draft. They are clearly looking to build a nice team around the young phenom of 2023 first overall pick Connor Bedard.

General manager Kyle Davidson is aggressive, and its fun to watch. We will see if the team has any other moves up their sleeves on day 2 of the draft tomorrow as they look to add depth to the pipeline.
