Lane Lambert, who was fired as the head coach of the New York Islanders back in January, has been linked to joining the staff of a Canadian NHL team by an insider

It seems Lane Lambert, who was fired as head coach of the New York Islanders during the 2024 season and replaced by goaltending legend Patrick Roy, is about to find his way back behind an NHL bench again. This time, with a Canadian team.

TSN Insider Darren Dreger appeared on TSN 1050 radio today and said Lambert is being eyed by new Toronto Maple Leafs coach Craig Berube for a position with the team.

"@DarrenDreger just told us that: "Lane Lambert, formerly of the New York Islanders could join the [Maple Leafs]" as Craig Berube's coaching staff takes shape."

A specific position wasn't named, but assistant coach seems to make the most sense. Sportsnet Insider Elliotte Friedman has also linked Lambert to Toronto.

"Elliotte Friedman on 32 TP: «Some of the names that I have heard that have been kind of connected a bit to Toronto have been Brad Lauer who mutually left Winnipeg & I heard Lane Lambert's name out there too Toronto, knowing them, they're casting a wide net."

After playing in several professional leagues, including the NHL, throughout a long playing career, Lambert was hired as head coach of the AHL's Milwaukee Admirals in 2007, before becoming an assistant coach with the Nashville Predators. He was an assistant coach with the Washington Capitals during their 2018 Stanley Cup win.

"Lane Lambert is a name to keep an eye on for the Leafs coaching staff."

After joining the New York Islanders as an assistant under head coach Barry Trotz, Lambert was promoted to the head coaching position for the team after Trotz was fired in 2022. In his first season, the Isles lost to Carolina in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Lambert coached around half a season in 2023-24 before he was fired himself.
