The NHL has made huge strides in broadening its fan base to include people from all walks of life. The league is now on the verge of going one step further, as the Seattle Kraken may hire Jessica Campbell, who would become the first female coach in the NHL.

The hockey world has expanded, with new leagues and fans abundant in the new era. Yet, to many fans' surprise, it appears the Seattle Kraken is looking to hire Jessica Campbell as an assistant coach. She would become the first female full-time coach in the NHL.
"New #SeaKraken head coach Dan Bylsma tells reporters in Seattle that Jessica Campbell will be considered for a job on his coaching staff.

There's never been a full-time female assistant coach in the NHL before."
Dan Bylsma was just named the new head coach for the Seattle Kraken. With his very recent history working together with Campbell for the Coachella Valley Firebirds, there is a solid chance that she could get this position. However, others believe Bylsma's departure from the AHL team will leave the head coaching position to her, which would also prove historic.
"The @SeattleKraken have named Dan Bylsma head coach! 🦑"
"Jessica Campbell will probably either get the promotion to Coachella Valley head coach in the AHL or move up with Dan Bylsma and be an assistant coach on his staff in the NHL with the #SeaKraken. Either way it will be history making."
In all likelihood, several other candidates are vying for the assistant coaching position, and it will likely take some time before any final decisions are published. However, the fact that Campbell is making waves beyond having been the first woman behind the NHL bench is nothing short of astonishing and can only mean positive changes for the league in the future.
"Lots of applause here for Jessica Campbell, one of the first women to stand behind an NHL bench in history #seakraken"
