Marc-Andre Fleury signs one-year extension with the Minnesota Wild

Marc-Andre Fleury has just shocked the hockey world, with an announcement that is the opposite of what everyone expected, a 1-year extension to his contract with the Minnesota Wild.

Everyone was expecting Marc-Andre Fleury to retire after this season, as all signs pointed to him ending his illustrious NHL career. However, a few comments a the end of the year seemed to point in another direction, as he indicated he might come back if the cards lined up for him to return to Minnesota.

Well, it appears the Wild got the message, and acted quickly, as it has been reported that they have inked Fleury to a 1-year extension.

Big news: Marc-Andre Fleury is signing a 1-year extension with #mnwild at $2.5 million.

Fleury turns 40 in November. Flower climbed to second all-time in wins (561) last season and with 21 more games, can pass Roy and Luongo for second all-time in games played by a goaltender.

Fleury is poised to become a Hall-of-Famer once he retires, and playing another season will give him an opportunity to pass some of the NHL's greats in games played.

The 1-year deal does indicate that he is likely to consider this his final year in the NHL, however, I guess you never know.
