The Washington Capitals managed to sneak into the final playoff spot in their division after the Philadelphia Flyers pulled their goalie with the game tied to lose in regulation.

What a wild way to end the regular season with one of the tightest playoff races that has happened in some time. With several teams vying for the final playoff spot, the Washington Capitals were able to find their way into the post-season despite having a negative goal differential on the season. The best part of it all, though, is how they did it.

During the game against the Flyers, the Capitals were able to score an empty netter in regulation to win the game, as the Flyers needed a win in regulation to have a chance at the postseason. So, despite the game being tied, the Flyers pulled their goaltender and ended up losing. After the game, Alex Ovechkin had this to say about the move.

"Thanks, Philly" - Alexander Ovechkin (@aleksandrovechkinofficial) thanks Philadelphia for pulling their goaltender when the game was tied — despite already being mathematically eliminated due to Detroit forcing a shootout 😅

Philadelphia needed to win in regulation and also hope Detroit lost in regulation to keep their season alive.

The atmosphere over the last few games has been entirely electric as these teams pushed for the final spot in the playoffs. As the post-season is set to get underway this weekend, Caps fans will be thanking John Tortorella and the Flyers for however long their season happens to be extended by.
