As we enter thew end of the season, retirement announcements will be coming forth. Today we saw one of the first of the season as Canadiens blueliner Chris Wideman announced that he will not be returning next season.

The announcement comes ahead of the Canadiens final game of the season against the Detroit Red Wings. As it turns out, it will be Wideman's final game of his career period.

#Canadiens 🇨🇦 defenseman Chris Wideman 🇺🇸 has retired from professional hockey at the age of 34.

At least it will be a meaningful game. The Red Wings are still fighting for their playoff lives and a win tonight could keep them alive. Wideman and his teammates will look to play the spoiler role.

After the game, Wideman will have concluded his NHL career with 292 games played. Obviously, he could score tonight but as it stands, he has 20 career goals and 78 points. Not too bad for a player picked in the 4th round, 100th overall.
