With the April 12th trade deadline fast approaching, teams have begun reaching out to one another to test the waters in hopes of locating a suitable trade partner. According to Broad Street Hockey, two teams who could have a mutual interest in striking a deal are the Philadelphia Flyers and the Nashville Predators.

BSH tweeted on Thursday evening that the two clubs have gotten together to have preliminary discussions on a trade that would bring Viktor Arvidsson and Mattias Ekholm to Philly in exchange for defensemen Shayne Gostisbehere, Erik Gustafsson and draft picks.

I'll be the first to admit that I'm not familiar with the Philadelphia-based podcast, nor would I claim to know how well-connected they are to the Flyers to be able to confirm the rumour's legitimacy, but the deal would make some sense for both sides.

For the Flyers, adding a scoring winger in Arvidsson, who could slot comfortably into their top-six and a quality top-four defenseman like Mattias Ekholm could help the team push for a playoff spot in the uber-competitive East Division, where they currently sit in 5th place with 29 points in 23 games.

For the Preds, they would land two serviceable NHL defensemen in Gostisbehere (who could certainly use a change of scenery) and Gustafsson, who has been a decent depth defenseman for the Flyers this season, and depending which picks are involved, they could really jumpstart their rebuild with an additional early round pick or two.

Until this one is confirmed by a trusted Hockey Insider, take it with a grain of salt, but it is certainly an interesting proposal.
