The St. Louis Blues have their work cut out for them between now and the start of the 2021-22 season as they work to get a number of contract extensions in place for some key players, including pending RFA's Jordan Kyrou, Robert Thomas, Zach Sanford and Ivan Barbashev, and pending UFA's Jaden Schwartz, Mike Hoffman and Jordan Binnington.

Earlier in the day on Thursday, a report from The Fourth Period surfaced stating that the Blues and Schwartz have begun preliminary discussions on a potential new deal, though that contract is not likely to be signed before the offseason. But now it appears as though the Blues are closing in on a new deal for another one of their big UFA's.

A pair of Hockey Insiders are reporting on Thursday evening that a new long-term deal for netminder Jordan Binnington is close. How close? Well, that's not exactly clear.

Some details that are available come from TSN's Pierre LeBrun, who has confirmed that the length of the deal looks to be six years, with an AAV in line with what Matt Murray and Jacob Markstrom were able to secure just this past offseason, in the $6M range.

Binnington, in just a few short seasons has gone from 4th-string goalie to Stanley Cup champion and now to NHL regular in what is one of the league's great success stories.

In 19 games this season, the 27-year-old has posted a 9-6-3 record, with a .908 SV% and a 2.69 GAA, in the final season of a 2-year, $8.8M deal.
