The announcement on Saturday that former Leafs, Red Wings and Ducks head coach Mike Babcock would be joining the University of Saskatchewan Huskies at the programs new head coach left a lot of people shocked, as many had suspected that the next gig Babcock would have accepted would have been in the National Hockey League.

Now that the announcement has been made, more details are coming to light surrounding Babcock's decision, and it appears as though the veteran coach has committed to taking on the position for just one season, but is expected to hire an assistant coach who will take over the team when Babcock's contract expires, according to TSN's Darren Dreger.

As Dreger also mentioned on Saturday via Twitter, Babcock's decision to join the Huskies coaching staff was due, in part, to family reasons and wanting to be closer to home, as Babcock is a Saskatoon, Saskatchewan native.

Despite being relieved of his duties by the Buds in November of 2019, the 57-year-old is still on the Maple Leafs' payroll and is set to earn $6.25M this season, as well as the next two seasons - unless, of course, he happens to find an NHL head coaching position before the end of his current deal with Toronto.
