Former NHL head coach Mike Babcock will be back behind the bench next season according to Darren Dreger of TSN. The 57-year old will be announced as head coach of the University of Saskatchewan Huskies next week.

Babcock has spent parts of 17 seasons in the National Hockey League as head coach for the Anaheim Ducks, Detroit Red Wings, and Toronto Maple Leafs. After a slow start to the 2019-20 season, he was fired from the Maple Leafs on November 20th 2019. Babcock has remained out of the spotlight until he recently joined NBC as an in-studio analyst.

The Saskatoon, Saskatchewan native caused some controversy during his time in Toronto. Following his firing, a report was released stating that Babcock made forward Mitch Marner create a list during his rookie year that featured the least-to-hardest working players on the Maple Leafs roster. There were also several stories from former players of awful treatment at the hands of Babcock during his time with Detroit.

Babcock has a record of 700 wins, 418 losses, 164 overtime/shooutout losses, and 19 ties in 1,301 regular season games. In 164 playoff games coached, he has 90 wins, and 74 losses, making three appearances in the Stanley Cup Final (2003, 2008, 2009) winning it with the Detroit Red Wings in 2008.

It's not known yet if this new position will impact Babcock's recent appearances on the NHL on NBC as an in-studio analyst
