In breaking news, this Calgary Flames prospect has officially begun his court trial and potentially faces a sentence of decades in prison.

Ronni Facing Criminal Charge in Home Country Set and Trial Set to Take Place

Topi Roni, selected by the Calgary Flames in the second round in 2022, has been facing criminal charges for crimes against a woman in his home country of Finland. Ronni, who is now 19, was a minor at the time of the alleged incident.

Ronni's case is now set to go to trial, and it will occur behind closed doors. Ronni has not commented on the trial, but had previously stated he would fight for his innocence.

"The last two or so years have been hard waiting for the matter to progress. I trust that the related course of events will be clarified in connection with the trial."

The Calgary Flames have also released a statement on their prospect, stating that they became aware of the incident after the draft, and will allow the legal proceedings to take place.

"We became aware of a potential legal issue involving Topi Ronni following our selection of him in the 2022 NHL Draft. We take this matter seriously and will let the legal process follow its due course. We have no further comment at this time."
