Patrik Laine had little to say to North American media regarding his recent benching by Columbus Blue Jackets head coach John Tortorella. It was revealed that Laine had shrugged off an assistant coach during his fourth game in Columbus, leading the Tortorella making him sit for most of the second and all of the third period of the match. All Laine said afterwards is that he deserved to be benched and both sides had moved on.

While Laine is notoriously quiet during English interviews, he opened up to Is.fi in his home country of Finland, saying he knew during the game why he was sitting.

"I had a hunch," said Laine. "And I didn't think it was because of my game performance.

"But these come from time to time," he added. "It's good that it's the same for everyone: no matter what name is on your back, everyone is equal. We have moved on and the same thing will not happen again."

Laine was, of course, asked about his thoughts on playing for Tortorella.

"Actually, everything is new," he said. "Everything related to both defensive and offensive play is now a little different. It took learning, especially in the first games. It felt like I was so lost when I didn't really know where to go."

"But Torts is as honest a guy as he can be. He will do his best to make the team win. Not much else can be asked here as a player," Laine added.

By the way, Laine did comment that he's back to taking his Playstation on the road with him after leaving it at home for much of last season. He said there's not much of anything else to do given the situation with COVID-19 and he's not really into watching TV.

"It's a must now. Otherwise, the days will be long," he said.

"All nights I actually watch the NHL. Yes I love watching hockey."

"Of course, I follow the games of guys and tough teams with a slightly closer eye."
