A reunion between the Pittsburgh Penguins and their former franchise goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury could come to fruition in the not so distant future.

According to TSN's Bob McKenzie the Penguins inquired about Fleury in the midst of their GM search last week. No other details were provided, but it looks like Pittsburgh is looking to upgrade their goaltending after trading Matt Murray to the Ottawa Senators in the off-season.

Fleury, 36, was drafted in the first round, first overall by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. He spent 13 seasons with the Penguins, and won the Stanley Cup three times, in 2009, 2016, and 2017. He went on to be selected by the Vegas Golden Knights in the 2017 Expansion Draft, and has spent the past four seasons with them.

In 854 regular season games, Fleury has 471 wins (5th all-time), 267 losses, 67 overtime/shootout losses, a 2.56 G.A.A., a .913 save percentage, and 62 shutouts. In 146 career playoff games, he has a record of 81 wins, 63 losses, a 2.58 G.A.A., a .911 save percentage, and 15 shutouts.

Rob Rossi of The Athletic reported last summer that Fleury would ideally like to end his career with the Pittsburgh Penguins. Only time will tell if the Pens bring back the best goaltender their franchise has ever seen.
