Cale Makar is one of the best hockey players in the world. However, not everything is about on-ice performance. The All-Star defenseman proved this when he commented on the culture of the sport following recent developments in the investigation into the 2018 WJC scandal.

Makar Reiterates Lack Of Involvement In Hockey Canada Scandal

While Makar was a very prominent member of team Canada at the 2018 World Junior Championship, he has consistently denied that he was involved in the incident that has since been investigated by London Police. Given recent developments in that story, it seems that he is telling the truth.
Just spoke with Cale Makar's agent Brian Bartlett who confirmed that Makar was not involved in the alleged ****** ******* involving the 2018 Canadian World Junior team and that he cooperated in the investigation.
"I've been kind of straightforward from the start that I wasn't there. But again, I'm just gonna leave it back to the people who are handling obviously the work right now."

Makar is not one of the five players set to face charges following the investigation by London Police. Furthermore, he went so far as to say that the NHL and the hockey world in general needs to do more to change the culture so that incidents like these do not happen again.

Makar Addresses Culture Of Hockey, Calls For More Inclusivity In The Sport

The 25-year-old defenseman talked about the culture of hockey when discussing the recent developments in the Hockey Canada investigation. He noted that there have been significant improvements in recent years and the NHL has come a long way, but there is still a long way to go before there is a properly healthy environment for everyone in the sport.
"I think we're at a point now where it's very inclusive for everybody, and it should feel that way. And if it doesn't, then we as a league and us as a game aren't doing the correct things to make it feel that way. So, for us, in my mind, I feel like everybody should be accepted, regardless of who you are. And I think that the game has just continued to grow and in that respect, I'm proud of where it's at right now, but we definitely still obviously have a long way to go."

Makar chose not to defend his former teammates who are now facing charges. He talked about his philosophy and how he was raised, noting that everyone's actions have consequences.
"At the end of the day, actions have consequences, and that's what I was taught growing up, regardless of the situation that's going on right now."

We talked about it yesterday. London police will have a press conference on Feb 5th so we will talk about it more when we have more information.
The five players facing charges are set for their next court hearing on the same day. It is not known if this was planned this way for a specific reason, but London police will likely address this fact at the press conference.
