Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Morgan Rielly and his Olympian wife Tessa Virtue are in the midst of a multi-million dollar legal battle in the city of Toronto.

The star-studded couple, which features Morgan Rielly, who makes $7.5 million annually as a star defenseman for the Maple Leafs, and one of the greatest female figure skaters of all time in Tess Virtue recently bought a 1912-built heritage house in Toronto.

When the couple tried painting the house, they were stopped, and are now involved in a legal battle with the multi-million dollar house.

"But because the house, which was built in 1912, is located within the North Rosedale Heritage Conservation District (NRHCD) permission has to be granted to make any alterations to its exterior.

The report says that in May, 2023 a building permit was issued for the property, allowing the owners to construct a single-storey rear addition and a detached parking garage.

A few months later in September a revised building permit was issued and staff say that the updated drawings at that time included a note that 'the brick was to be painted.'

However, they said that 'Heritage Planning staff were not aware of this note' when they approved the permit."

We will see what the outcome is for Morgan Rielly and Tessa Virtue, but for now they will have to live with a half-painted house and another first round exit under their belt.
