It's not every day that you see a position swap in professional sports, much less a forward switching to defense in the middle of a game. Unfortunately for the Buffalo Sabres, that exact switch had to be made during today's game against the Vancouver Canucks.

Girgensons Switches to Defense

After a series of unfortunate injuries for the Buffalo Sabres, leaving them without three of their defenseman, forward Zemgus Girgensons was spotted taking shifts at defense in an attempt to keep their defensive legs somewhat fresh.

Zemgus Girgensons is playing defense.

Rasmus Dahlin, Mattias Samuelsson, and Erik Johnson are all in the locker room.

Right now the three defensemen playing are Power, R. Johnson and Clifton along with Girgensons.

While Girgensons isn't a natural defenseman, clearly his coaches felt comfortable deploying him in that position for the time being.

We'll wait and see if this situation improves throughout the rest of the game.
