Brendan Leipsic, who currently plays in the KHL, has officially received his Russian citizenship.

Leipsic, 29, born in Winnipeg, has received his Russian citizenship, four years after moving to Russia to play in the KHL.

He first joined the CSKA Moscow in 2020, then played two full seasons with the Magnitogorsk Metallurg and currently wears the St. Petersburg SKA's uniform.

He was drafted by the Nashville Predators at the 3rd round of the 2012 NHL draft. He ended up playing for the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Vegas Golden Knights, Vancouver Canucks, Los Angeles Kings and the Washington Capitals. He tallied 59 points in 187 career games.

He was involved in a major controversy when he was playing in the NHL, after misogynistic messages from his Instagram account were leaked.
