The Philadelphia Flyers surprised a lot of hockey fans yesterday when it was abruptly announced that top prospect Cutter Gautheir had been traded to the Anaheim Ducks for defenceman Jamie Drysdale and a second-round pick. Now, head coach John Tortorella has responded to reports that Gautheir didn't want to play with the Flyers .

As mentioned, shortly after the trade, it was revealed that Gautheir, the 5th overall pick in the 2022 NHL Draft, had flat out refused to meet with representatives of the Flyers, and told them he was not interested in playing there, despite telling GM Danny Briere he wanted to be a Flyer at the draft.
"He didn't want to be a Flyer. So we had to come up with a plan and, fortunately, we were able to execute on that plan." - Flyers President Keith Jones
Asked about the Gauthier's refusal to play in Philadelphia, Tortorella said the feeling is mutual.
"Then, we don't want you."

Asked to elaborate more, Tortorella said he's not interested in dwelling on Gauthier.
"I don't know Cutter from a hole in the wall. So, I'm not too interested in talking about him. I'd rather talk about Jamie. The guy that's coming here."
While it has been widely reported that Gautheir told the Flyers he didn't want to play for the team, what hasn't been said is why he feels that way. The Swedish-born American player is currently suiting up for Boston College of the NCAA Division 1. In 17 games so far this season, Gauthier has 13 goals and 23 points.
