Kevin Bieksa didn't hold back last night during the Sportsnet Panel in intermission as he tore into this controversial player for dirty plays.

Kevin Bieksa Calls Out Cousins for Recent String of Dirty Plays

Kevin Bieksa is quickly becoming the face of the Sportsnet Panel and a big voice in hockey media. He has well-reasoned takes most of the time, and can speak as a voice of someone who had a successful career in the NHL and as someone who saw the game change from a past era to what it is now.
Last night, he decided it was time to speak out on Nick Cousins and his recent hit on Juuso Valimaki which went unpenalized.
"What people don't wanna watch and see is kneeing, hitting a guys head into the boards, ramming a guy from behind and that is a common theme for [Nick Cousins]. I have never done this before but I have to do it, because this is a trend with this player. There's no place in the game for this and what is the common theme in all of these? Him at the bottom of the pile in a turtle position. This has been a common theme with this player... somebody in that organization or somebody that he respects has to sit down and say 'Enough of this' or the NHL has to come down and hammer this guy. Somebody has to hammer this guy from the department of justice and put an end to these crappy hits because I hate them and that's a rat to me. I'm sorry it is."

Bieksa Thinks Cousins Needs to Change His Play

Bieksa went on to talk about two solutions that could potentially change how Cousins plays the game, putting an end to his string of dirty hits. First, he mentions that a veteran or teammate whom Cousins respects needs to talk some sense into him. Maybe Bieksa thinks that is what he was doing on the panel, but he still offered that up as a potential solution.
That, or he noted that the NHL could hand out a massive suspension for Cousins on his next play is questionable. This would send a message that the NHL has their eye on him and that this type of play is not tolerated.
