In the first few minutes of the second period, Canucks' defenseman Filip Hronek threw the puck at the net, but Jonas Siegenthaler blocked the shot with his foot.
He stayed on the ice, and the Cancucks eventually scored a goal, making it 2-0.
When they scored, Siegenthaler collapsed on the ice.
We learned after the game that the defenseman broke his foot on the play.
"From start to finish, here's the shift where Jonas Siegenthaler battled through a broken foot, continuing to defend. Couldn't make it to the bench and collapsed as soon as the Canucks scored."
"Postgame tonight, NJ coach Lindy Ruff said Jonas Siegenthaler suffered a broken foot and will be out awhile"
This is a major loss for the Devils, who had already announced an important injury to Jack Hughes before last night's game. With Dougie Hamilton also sidelined, the Devils' blue line will need reinforcements soon if they want to make it to the playoffs.
