William Nylander is having a career season, in a contract year where he is a UFA, and all the talk this year has been on if/when Nylander will sign, or if the Maple Leafs should just trade him. We are now closer than ever to a resolution.

Elliotte Friedman's latest report on the Nylander contract talk

Elliotte Friedman was on the NHL Network today and was asked about his comments on the Wlliam Nylander contract talk from yesterday that originated from Nick Kypreos.
"I wouldn't be surprised if it gets done soon... Nick Kypreos he reported they're talking in the 8x11.25M range. I don't know that for sure but I don't think Nick is off too much if he's off at all. I think they're kind of talking about that kind of range. That's not where Toronto was in the summer, now they're in that area and I do think that's going to get done"

Just for references this is the news Kypreos broke yesterday:
"It's trending closer to the Leafs and Willy getting a deal done, is what I hear.

The other belief is that it will be a number that's over [$11 million]. $11.25 million is the one that is probably mentioned the most. Times eight.

The other thing you gotta consider is that when the Leafs can frontload this and turn it into a $12 or $13 million upfront signing bonus, it's worth a heck of a lot more than $11.25 million. It creates greater value in real money."
It appears to be quite likely that Nylander will soon be signing a large deal to the tune of around $11 million, and the term likely being eight years.

Nylander's season to date has been great

This season, either Austin Matthews or William Nylander have been the Toronto Maple Leafs' players of the game. Nylander has 51 points, 19 goals, and 32 assists in 36 games. Despite being viewed as the fourth forward among the "Big four" at all times, he is now easily the second best. Hopefully his production can keep up through a majority of the deal, but at least if it does not the NHL expects the salary cap to continue to rise sharply.
