Today a new announcement confirmed that a youth coach in Ontario will be facing a massive lawsuit for an altercation with a young player.

Ontario Youth Hockey Coach Facing Major Lawsuit

A report by investigative reporter Rick Westhead has confirmed that a hockey coach in the London area is being sued along with Hockey Canada. According to Westhead, an altercation left a young player «physically battered» by the coach in question. Below is a full summary of the events provided by Westhead.

A minor hockey coach in the London area is being sued for $2 million by parents who allege the coach threatened and «physically battered» their child during a practice.
Days after the child's father filed a misconduct complaint against the coach with his child's hockey organization on Oct.15, the father alleges the coach assaulted him in a dressing room.
In front of others, the coach allegedly accused the father of being a public danger who had engaged «in obscene and/or despicable behaviour.»
The local hockey association, whose co-defendants include Hockey Canada, allegedly retained an investigator who was «incompetent, partial, unqualified and/or biased» and did not refer the case to police as it was obligated to do.
The family says consequences for reporting the alleged abuse included their child being demoted to a lower level of hockey, and being stigmatized as «weak» and a «problem player.»
«Players and parents who did not make complaints and/or supported [the coach] were rewarded,» the lawsuit says.
Statements of defence have not been filed in court and the allegations have not been proven.

Hockey Canada In Hot Water Once Again For Scandal

This is once again another example of Hockey Canada not properly protecting those under their responsibility.

Add this lawsuit to the investigation into the 2018 Canadian WJC Championship team that has not been resolved. Along with these incidents are things like the Wenatchee Wild coach in the WHL being suspended for misconduct with a player as well.

Hockey Canada has said they are trying to improve and make the game of hockey a safer place for all parties involved. To this point at any level, this has not been the case. Hockey Canada will have plenty of work to do to clean up their image and show that they have made true strides in these areas.
