The New Jersey Devils and Buffalo Sabres played an exciting and rough Friday night tilt with the Devils coming up the victors, winning the game 5-4.

The Hit

At the 16:00 mark of the first period Nico Hischer was tipping the puck into the defensive end when Connor Clifton came up on the blindside aiming for a hit, and made contact with Hischer's head.
Teammate Ondrej Palat stood up for Hischer and fought Clifton leading to an instigator penalty. Clifton was assessed a match penalty for head contact and five minutes for fighting.
Elliotte Friedman announced that Clifton would be hearing from player safety soon.
Later NHL Player Safety announced a hearing was confirmed for Saturday.

The remainder of the game

Nico Hischer came out later in the second period, and then did not play the third period for what Head Coach Lindy Ruff called "precautionary reasons".
When both teams hit the ice in the third the score was tied 3-3. A powerplay goal by Jack Hughes put New Jersey ahead 4-3, only to be answered shortly after by Dylan Cozens. The game winning goal was scored by Eric Haula with 5:43 remaining in the period.
It is unknown how long hischer will be out of action, and it is also unknown how long Connor Clifton will be suspended for.
