In light of this surprising KHL news, Matvei Mitchkov could be making his NHL debut sooner than previously expected.

KHL Terminates Sergei Ivanov's Contract Allowing Him to Sign 2-Year Deal

Sergei Ivanov is an up-and-coming NHL prospect out of Russia, being drafted in the 5th round of the 2022 NHL entry draft by the Columbus Blue Jackets. Recently, the KHL terminated Ivanov's KHL contract and allowed him to sign a 2-year deal.

Per the #KHL, SKA has terminated the contract of #CBJ prospect Sergei Ivanov and he signs a new two-year contract with them which runs till the end of the 2024-25 season. It was reported earlier that he'll join Admiral on loan.

Could Michkov Do the Same and Get to the NHL Sooner?

This left fans wondering if the KHL could do the same for recent 7th overall pick Matvei Michkov, who is under contract with SKA St. Petersburg until 2026. If he were able to terminate his contract in a similar way, he could join the Flyers much sooner than previously expected.

Now terminate Michkov's contract and sign him to a one-year extension.

Matvei Michkov scores AGAIN, this time against his former KHL team.

He now has 4 goals, 8 points in 8 games with Sochi at age 18. 👀

Michkov wasn't expected to make his NHL debut until his contract expired in 2026, a move that the Flyers organization has said they were okay with, letting him develop his game in the KHL.
