Montreal Canadiens goaltending coach Stephane Waite spoke with media Tuesday, explaining what the team's plans are in net for the 2020-21 season, as well as the future.

Waite, who has been a goaltending coach in the NHL for 15 seasons, said that with the acquisition of Jake Allen, the team will switch to more of a ‘1A' ‘1B' role, so that they don't overwork goaltender Carey Price. The 33-year-old started 58 of Montreal's 71 games this season, as well as 66 in 2018-19.

Waite also spoke on goaltending prospect Cayden Primeau, who many believe is the team's future starting netminder. He emphasized that they want to be patient with the 21-year-old, hoping to get him roughly 150 games of AHL experience before becoming a full time NHL goaltender. He played in 33 games with the Laval Rocket last season, posting a 2.45 goals against average (GAA) along with a .908 save percentage (SV%).

Finally, Waite expressed optimism that the Price/Allen duo will work great, stating that two of Price's goalie partners were Peter Budaj and Antti Niemi. The reason behind this was apparently due to the fact that both were veteran goalies, much like Allen. This is exciting news for Habs fans, as the team finally has a competent backup behind Price, something they have been seeking for a long time. In 24 games with the St. Louis Blues last season, Allen posted a 2.15 GAA along with a .927 SV%.
