According to Ottawa Senators reporter Bruce Garrioch, the NHL could decide the 2020-21 season start date later this week.

Garrioch mentioned the NHL's board of governors could get an update as early as Thursday on what options the league is studying with regards to the start of the 2020-21 campaign. This is very exciting news for hockey fans who have been waiting to hear when the NHL will start back up, as well as how long the season will be. There have been reports that the league would like to get started as early as January 1, however there have been contradicting reports also stating that the league may play as little as 48 games next season. Hopefully by Thursday many of these unknowns can be cleared up.

In a normal year, the regular season would have started up roughly a month ago. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, everything has changed dramatically. The NHL playoffs, which usually take place throughout May and June, were instead delayed and played in August and September. Of course, no fans were in the stands for the 2020 playoffs, which is likely to be the case for the 2020-21 regular season as well, though we may hear more on that this Thursday as well.
