A Chicago Blackhawks legend has made his retirement official.

Hjalmarsson Retires

Niklas Hjarmalsson, a three-time Cup champion and Chicago Blackhawks legend has officially retired from hockey.

Defensemen Niklas Hjalmarsson has announced his retirement from professional hockey today. He originally retired in 2021, but unretired in 2022 and played 17 games for HV71 (SHL) in the 22-23 season.

The 36-year old was a 2005 4th round pick, he played in 821 total GP for #Hawks and #Yotes, winning 3 Stanley Cups with #Hawks in 2010, 2013, and 2015.

Hjarmalsson registered 172 points in his 821 game career. He departed from the Blackhawks in 2017 to join the Coyotes but after four lackluster years with the Coyotes, he would leave the NHL.

He previously announced his retirement in 2021 but unretired to play in his home nation of Sweden but has now decided to officially retire from hockey.
