Blackhawks will retire Chris Chelios' #7 jersey on Feb. 25 against Detroit, the team has confirmed.
Chelios is one of the most iconic players in NHL history given the longevity of his career. He is tied for 1st in seasons played in with 26. He is 9th among all games played with 1651 which also leads defenseman.
He is a member of the Hall of Fame and has won the Norris trophy three different times. Chelios will have his number retired when the Blackhawks face off against the Red Wings, his two longest-tenured franchises.
He spent 10 seasons with the Red Wings and 9 with the Blackhawks beforehand. He is an icon for the modern defenseman and was one of the first to prove that smaller defensemen can be outstanding in the NHL.
